How Acquired: 2011 Draft, 1st Round (19th overall)


Universally regarded as one of the finest cornerbacks in the country…Played in 49 games with 31 starts at Nebraska…Started 16 games at right cornerback and 15 on the left side…Career totals include 161 tackles (100 solo), 5 interceptions (returned for 63 yards, a 12.6-yard avg.), 26 pass deflections, 4 sacks for minus 31 yards, 6 stops for losses totaling 34 yards, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 quarterback pressure…Ranks 7th in Nebraska history with 26 pass deflections, 7th with 13 pass breakups in 2010 and is tied for 8th on the Cornhuskers’ season record chart with 5 interceptions in 2009.

  • Amukamara’s rookie season was cut in half because of a fractured foot he suffered in his 1st training camp practice on Aug. 6…Was inactive for the season’s first 9 games…Played in the final 7 regular season games and all 4 postseason games…Finished with 14 tackles (12 solo), 1 interception, 3 passes defensed and a fumble recovery…In the postseason, had 3 tackles (2 solo). Made NFL debut on the game’s 4th play vs. Philadelphia (11/20). On his 2nd play, he intercepted a long Vince Young pass intended for DeSean Jackson.   • A member of the Muscular Dystrophy’s “Muscle Team” and attended their annual fundraiser dinner.
  • Organized a Holiday party with teammate Da’Rel Scott for members of My Sister’s Place, a domestic violence shelter in Westchester County, N.Y. The players bought gifts and hosted a pizza party for the families.
  • Played Santa Claus at the Giants annual Jingle Jam holiday party at MetLife Stadium for 500 N. J. foster children.
  • Attended the Giants’ annual Kickoff Luncheon benefitting Hackensack University Medical Center
  • Attended the Giants’ Rookie Halloween Party at Hackensack University Medical Center, where the rookies dressed in costume and visited the pediatric cancer unit.
  • Attended the Jay Fund’s Annual Champions for Children’s Gala in New York City.
  • Participated in the Giants’ Back to Football Caravan, where five car loads of players participated in a series of surprise visits to supermarkets, schools, and charitable events around the Tri-State.
  • Hosted 4th Annual Toy & Book Drive during the Holidays to this benefiting The Boys & Girls Clubs in Bergen County and Justin Tuck’s charity, Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy.
  • Signed autographs for fans at the Giants Draft Day party at MetLife Stadium.

  • Starred at Apollo High School (Glendale, Ariz.)…Named the state Player of the Year by the Arizona Republic and All-Arizona Informant Offensive Player of the Year as a senior…Class 4A All-State selection by the Arizona Republic in 2006…Three-time All-Region honoree, earning 1st-team nods as a junior and senior and a 2nd-team choice as a sophomore…Two-way starter at running back and defensive back…Rushed for nearly 50 touchdowns and 3,389 yards over his final 2 seasons, adding 664 yards receiving and 125 tackles…Led the Hawks to a 7-4 overall record as a senior and an appearance in the Class 4A playoffs while gaining 2,106 yards with 24 touchdowns on the ground, adding 22 receptions for 252 yards with 6 more scores…Defensively, had 95 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and a blocked field goal…Rushed for 366 yards and 4 touchdowns in an overtime loss to Scottsdale Chaparral in the 1st round of the Class 4A playoffs…Helped the Apollo basketball team win 3 straight Class 4A state titles as a starting guard…Averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game as a senior, leading the Hawks to a 26-6 overall record in 2007…Also starred as a member of the track and field squad, where he won the Class 4A state titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes as a senior…His times in the 100 (10.78) and 200 (21.91) were both tops in the state of Arizona…Sociology major…Member of the Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll (Fall 2010 and 2007)…Named to the 2010 Brook Berringer Citizenship team for his work as a volunteer in the community (outreach work includes team hospital visits, a World War II Veteran's Visit and March Madness Ball Night for the Down Syndrome Association for Families) …His family comes from royal bloodlines in Nigeria…Grandfather was the king of the Awo-Omamma in Imo State of Nigeria, while Romanus Amukamara was chief…Has 5 sisters whose names are Princess, Precious, Promise, Peace and Passionate…Born June 6, 1989.
