CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
Austin tore his left pectoral muscle in a preseason game vs. Chicago (8/22) and underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 30.

COLLEGE:
Austin played in 38 games with 25 starts at North Carolina, recording 106 tackles (59 solo) with 9 sacks for minus 76 yards, 13.5 stops for losses totaling 91 yards and 14 quarterback pressures…Forced a fumble and recovered another that he advanced 3 yards…Broke up 3 pass attempts and intercepted another for a 23-yard touchdown return…In 2010, was a preseason All-America candidate and a member of the Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy and Nagurski Award watch lists…Did not play after being suspended from the team in early September and dismissed from the UNC football program in October…In 2009, he earned 2nd-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors…Started the first 11 games at right defensive tackle…Did not play in the team’s final 2 contests, but lined up at left tackle vs. Pittsburgh in the Meineke Car Care Bowl…Ranked 10th on the team with 42 tackles (22 solo) and tied his career-high with 4 sacks for minus 40 yards…Had 6 stops for losses of 48 yards…Credited with 6 pressures…Forced a fumble and recovered another…Batted down 3 passes and recorded a safety vs. Connecticut….Posted a career-high 8 tackles (3 solo), including a 6-yard sack
and 1.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage vs. Connecticut…In 2008, played in 13 games with 11 starts at right defensive tackle…Tied for the team-lead among the UNC down linemen with 38 tackles (21 solo), as he posted a 3-yard sack, 1.5 stops for minus 4 yards and 5 pressures…Blocked an extra point attempt and intercepted a pass…In 2007, played in all 12 games, backing up Kentwan Balmer at right defensive tackle before earning starting assignments vs. East Carolina on the right side and vs. Virginia Tech and Miami on the left side…Finished with 26 tackles (16 solo), including 4 sacks for minus 33 yards, 6 stops for losses of 39 yards and 3 pressures.

Attended 2 high schools in Washington D.C…Played at Coolidge High before transferring to Ballou during his senior year…Both Scout.com and Rivals.com regarded Austin as the nation’s best defensive tackle, as Rivals also called him the 7th-best overall prospect in the country…Earned All-Metro honors from the Washington Post and was chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl…During his senior season at Ballou High, he recorded 85 tackles with 17 sacks and 14 other stops behind the line of scrimmage…As a junior at Coolidge
