Eisen's Mailbag: Next free agent to sign

Posted Mar 8, 2013's Michael Eisen answers your questions!

Today’s edition of The Mailbag on

Now that the Giants have signed Will Beatty to a long-term contract, which of their other free agents to you think will sign to stay with the team?

Hard to say, since Jerry Reese says very little publicly about contracts. But it’s possible the next significant contract won’t be signed by a current free agent. Several members of the media have speculated the Giants will try to lock up Hakeem Nicks, who has one more season remaining on his contract before he becomes a free agent. Victor Cruz is a restricted free agent, but the Giants can present him with a qualifying offer – though another team could decide to match it, in which case the Giants will be compensated. The Giants might also be waiting for the free agent market to open to open on March 12, when NFL teams will be able to sign all unrestricted free agents. The next couple of weeks should provide an answer to your question.
