The biggest surprise is rookie defensive end Kerry Wynn. I don’t know if his name was publicly mentioned once in training camp.
While Corey Washington was the rookie free agent getting all the media attention, Wynn quietly went about his business and earned a spot on the roster.

He stays while a much more experienced player in Israel Idonije was released. The coaches clearly saw something in Wynn that outside observers missed.
In the spirit of giving a different name than Michael Eisen (Kerry Wynn would also be my biggest surprise), I'll go with Preston Parker. Parker's ability to return punts and kicks is one of the factors that got him on the roster, according to Tom Coughlin, but he did have some ball security issues during the summer and I thought that might keep him off the final 53. But it would seem that until first round pick Odell Beckham Jr. gets back, he will be in the mix in the return game. Parker did flash as a receiver more than once in practice, and his experience in the league will help him contribute on offense if he's needed.
I’m going with the way the wide receiver group played out, which really became the top competition to watch down the stretch in training camp and the preseason games.

They also did it the Tom Coughlin way by producing during games, like Washington, and being reliable on special teams, like Parker as a returner. By doing so, they went from longshots to non-surprises in the end.
